#REPOST @indigenous.tv with @get__repost__app Who gets to tell Native stories? 🤔

An interview with Jana Schmiedling (@janaunplgd) and our friend, Laura Clark (@laura_clark) from February has resurfaced this week; sharing Schmieding’s honest feelings towards Sheridan leading the upcoming film, “Empire of the Summer Moon,” a story about Chief Quanah Parker & Comanche peoples.

Jana shared, “Why are we letting this happen when [Native people] have so little opportunity still,” despite our talent receiving critical acclaim yet far less compensation.

Speaking with @deadline, Author, S.C. Gwynne shared their excitement to work with Sheridan; although both Gwynne & Sheridan have yet to respond to the criticism faced from Comanche people – Including Parker’s great-great-grandson, Nocona Burgess.

Further, contributing to the conversation was Mo Brings Plenty (@mobringsplenty), who defended Sheridan. Brings Plenty was the American Indian Affairs coordinator for the Sheridan-led project, Yellowstone, adding that allies are crucial to telling Native stories.

Nocona Burgess concluded by suggesting Comanche filmmakers like Jason Asenap (@asenap) or Jhane Myers (@thejhane) involved in the film on his ancestor.

Last week, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai (@dpharaohwoonatai) told ELLE he believes it should be “mandatory” to include a Native Director, Writer & Casting Director when creating stories on Native people.

What’s your opinion on this? 💭⤵️
